Help Us Give Something Back

We are extremely blessed and lucky to have found a full match for Jonathon's bone marrow transplant, but there are thousands of people that still need a match. To help us give something back, a team of friends from Notre Dame and family has organized a bone marrow donation registry drive in honor of Jonathon. Here are the details:

Date: Thursday, April 30, 2009
Time: 10 AM - 3 PM (No appointment needed!)
Location: University of Notre Dame - Information Technology Center (Grid Room - Room 121)

It is easy and painless to get registered, and should only take 15 minutes (most of which you'll spend filling out a health information sheet). You must be between 18 and 60 years old, be willing to donate to any patient in need, and meet a few health guidelines. There is a $30 testing fee for non-minority donors. If you have other questions about donating, please call the National Marrow Donor Program at 1-800-MARROW-2.

Please help us give back.

  1. We are so pleased you have found a match. I think that is something that worries us a lot, as without a good match, they dont guarantee a great transplant. You must be so relieved. At least you having a few positives this week. I am sitting in the hospital with steven, and am using his laptop as our computer at home is broken. He is having a 5 day course of antibiotics to get rid of his infection. His temp has finally come down, and hopefully he can come home on friday. He has to be back next tuesday for his next 6 day chemo 'hell'!! You must be so pleased to have your taste back, its just not the same eating food you cant taste.
I hope your bone marrow drive is HUGELY successful, as there are so many people needing bone marrow transplants. Great that you have got so involved and going the extra mile to help all the leukaemia patients. :-)
Lots of love and positive thoughts, alison and steven

  2. Color me there!! I am looking forward to working for the drive. For others who may be busy that day, or from a different area and can't get here, you can order the test kit online at www.marrow.org I did the kit back in February and all you have to do is follow a few simple instructions and swab the inside of your cheeks. The return mail is prepaid. Once your samples are tested, you will receive a card for your wallet. Like Katie pointed out, Jonathon was lucky. Let's all help out someone else!!

  3. hows your weekend going? hope you are still at home. Stevens temp just wont go away and he seems to get weaker by the day. He is now on antibiotic 6 & 7, they are trying everything to get rid of the bacteria in his system, but nothing seems to work. He is very weak now, and doesnt get out of bed, even opening his eyes is an effort. His j-line is infected as well. I got a psychologist in to see him last night as he was very tearful and down yesterday. He wasnt too impressed with the session though and feels that he speaks openly enough with me, so why must he pay someone to listen to him!! How is your treatment going, are you taking many meds at the moment?
take care, we are thinking of you, alison
